Frequently asked questions
Is PDF One really free?
Yes. The web editor is free with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on the number of files. It is supported by ads in the editor.
Do my files get uploaded anywhere?
No. PDF One opens, edits and saves files inside your browser. The editor is blocked by a strict Content Security Policy from connecting to other servers, so your documents cannot be sent. See why offline PDF editing is safer.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. After you open the editor once, it is stored by your browser and works offline, including text recognition. Ads simply don't show while you are offline.
Do I need to install anything?
No. PDF One runs in any modern browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iPhone. You can also add it to your home screen from your browser menu so it opens like an app.
Which browsers are supported?
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Older browsers may not support every feature, such as text recognition.
Can I edit the text of a scanned PDF?
Yes. Run text recognition first and then click the text to change it. Read how to edit text in a PDF.
How do I combine several PDFs?
Open them all, put them in order in the Files list and choose Merge files. The full steps are in how to merge PDF files.
Is a signature added with PDF One legally binding?
A drawn signature is a simple electronic signature, which is accepted for many everyday documents. It is not a certified digital signature, and some documents legally require one. Details are in how to sign a PDF.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed limit, because files are processed on your device. Very large documents depend on your device's memory and may be slower on older phones.
Can you recover a file I lost?
No. We never receive your files, so we have no copy. Keep a backup of important originals before editing.
Do you have an iPhone app?
Yes. The PDF One iPhone app works the same way, entirely on your phone, with an optional Pro upgrade.
